The Art Gallery, situated in the restored 1767 Granary building has an established reputation for its monthly selling exhibitions by acclaimed artists from across the country. Following on from last year’s successful competition Weston Park is looking forward to welcoming many more entries.
The overall winner will receive a prize of £2,000, and a regional winner from the Staffordshire or Shropshire will receive £500, kindly sponsored by Shrewsbury based auctioneers and valuers Halls.
There will also be a junior class for works submitted by under 16’s and the winner will take home artists materials to the value of £50.00.
Last year’s Open Art Competition was won by Joy Pitts with her work ‘Dairy Cow’ and the Regional Prize was awarded to Rob Pointon for ‘Etruria Roundabout’. Rob went on to exhibit in the Gallery in December as part of the 25th anniversary celebrations for the Weston Park Foundation.
Gareth Williams, Curator to the Weston Park Foundation comments: “We are very excited about this years forthcoming Open Competition, we had over 150 entries last year which were then shortlisted for the final exhibition in August.
We had over 2,000 visitors to the Gallery for the Open so it’s a great way for up and coming artists to showcase their work.” concludes Gareth
As an educational charity Weston Park is passionate about fostering and acknowledging talent and believes its Fine Art Open Competition offers a great platform for local and national emerging artists.
