The evening’s entertainment will be led by ChiMera, who are renowned for their classical-jazz fusion, and includes a programme of classical favourites and Christmas carols plus some of the band’s own compositions, performed by David Oliver on flute, Maja Holinger on cello, Robin Payne on percussion, Helen Porter on keyboard and Brian Shiels on double bass.
The audience will also be able to sing-a-long to some of the more familiar festive songs with mezzo soprano, Helen E. May. All performers will be giving their time free of charge and proceeds from the concert will be used to support the Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust’s charitable aims of protecting, preserving and interpreting the industrial heritage within the Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage Site.
ChiMera have performed at venues around the UK and overseas including the Edinburgh Festival, St Martin’s-in-the-Field and the Dorchester Hotel in London’s Park Lane. They released ‘Complete Bolling’ on Claudio Records earlier in 2007, which is the first flute suite by Claude Bolling.
Tickets for the festive concert, which include light refreshments during the interval, are priced at £10 for adults and £8 for concessions (60 plus, and under 16s). Advance tickets can be booked in person from the Ironbridge Tourist Information Centre, or by calling the TIC on 01952 884391 who will arrange for the tickets to be left at the entrance to be collected on the night or posted at an additional cost of £2. Doors will open at 7pm with the concert starting at 7.30pm.
