“In our marriage we started at the bottom, and we’re working our way down.” So the frustrated, talented, ambitious and beautiful Susan Foster bemoans her ill-fated marriage to the unemployed, un-ambitious, mediocre Brian. Next door the successful, attractive, demanding Douglas struggles to cope with his uninspiring wife, Audrey. Susan’s uncle, Insurance assessor Hubert Simkins, knows his niece only too well, and sees trouble ahead.
When Brian’s mother calls, bringing her motley group of friends, Susan is surprised to find an unexpected opportunity for excitement and a challenge. A natural leader she soon finds herself managing this little gang and growing the “business”, with the help of the wayward young Paula, from petty pilfering to something much more lucrative, but increasingly fraught with danger.
This is a hilarious farce by David Appleford, with some very astute characterisation and a cleverly constructed plot. With a huge cast of 13, you will find all your old favourites here, plus guest appearances from retirees, and two debut performances. This will be gala evening, not to be missed.
