Virtual Shropshire Newsletter October 2009
YOU CAN NOW USE TWITTER TO PROMOTE YOUR OFFERS AND AVAILABILITY ON VIRTUAL SHROPSHIRE
With Twitter making headlines all last week, I'd like to try a little experiment, which may bring you some additional business!
As some of you may know we are already using Twitter to broadcast events and news.
The obvious next step is to broadcast (or tweet) customer availability, special offers and news!
For your part all you need to do is the following:
1. Get a free Twitter account via www.twitter.com . It is very easy to sign up! Make sure you include your business / property name somewhere in the profile, so I know you are one of our customers.
2. Follow us at http://twitter.com/vshropshire or locate us @vshropshire
3. Tweet your news, late availability or special offers!
4. If appropriate we will then ReTweet (RT), which will broadcast it to our followers and display it on Virtual Shropshire.
For more information about using Twitter for tourism promotion see this article.
Sorry I cannot assist you with any Twitter specific questions or do any Twitter training at this time as we are very busy, but the notes below may be useful.
To start with:
I will only ReTweet (RT) one unique message per customer per day.
Please bear with us if the RT does not appear for a while as we are not monitoring 24/7!
I will only RT availability up to two weeks forward.
You only have 140 characters so make sure your message is clear and either includes a link to your website or your phone number.
Eg for a special offer something like
"Discount B&B, Shrewsbury town centre. £10 per night. This week only 01743 555555".
Or availability could be something like
"Self catering sleeps 5. Much Wenlock. Late availability w/b 18 Oct, £220 p/w www.mycottage.co.uk"
As a mentioned this is an experiment, so it may take a bit of time to get working and there are bound to be problems I have not thought of. However I do believe that, with a little work, Twitter has the potential to bring serious additional business to the county.
If it is successful I do have other ideas to enhance and extend the use of Twiiter, including the possibility of visitors tweeting their own needs.
DISCOUNT PHOTOGRAPHY

The cost is just £50 to photograph a property and one guest bedroom. That includes exterior shots and any public rooms (lounge, dining room etc). Extra bedrooms can photographed at a cost of £25 each, so for example a four-bedroom B&B or self catering cottage would cost just £125.
