Country Cottage

Lavender Cottage is situated just over 4 miles outside Craven Arms near the lovely marches village of clungunford. The cottage is next to an award-winning tearoom where delicious homemade cakes, scones and light lunches are served throughout the year. Its location makes Lavender Cottage an ideal centre from which to explore the lovely rural countryside of Shropshire, Herefordshire and the Welsh boarders.

The cottage is a detached converted barn that is furnished with care and attention to provide comfort and character. It offers a well appointed newly fitted kitchen with all electric essentials, a warm and comfortable living room with log burning stove. Wander upstairs to a large double bedroom and a single room as well as a family bathroom. All rooms retain their original features with exposed oak beams. There is a full central heating system throughout the building.

You can expect a warm and friendly welcome and on arrival you will be provided with a tray comprising of fresh leaf tea and coffee served with homemade cake. In addition a traditional home cooked evening meal can be provided when ordered in advance. Your pet is welcome by prior arrangement only. Car parking is provided and a garden is available for you to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet of the Shropshire countryside.

The Shropshire Marches offer a wealth of lovely places you are sure to enjoy exploring both by car and on foot. Make a visit to the beautiful historic town of Ludlow with its Norman castle, characteristically Georgian architecture and fine shops. The annual food and drinks fair, Festival and Medieval Fayre have nationwide appeal attracting many visitors to the town. If you’re looking for something completely different then why not spend a day at the races in Ludlow.

Heading back to the cottage you will pass close to Stokesay Castle, a fortified 13th century manor house of which you will undoubtedly want to visit. Take a trip in to more spectacular countryside as you view the colourful world of rare poultry at the Wernlas Collection near Onibury. Bring back distant memories at the Land of Lost Content in Craven Arms, a museum with an extensive collection of 20th century popular British items. If you are intrigued by the Shropshire landscape then why not discover the secrets at the Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre, which is also in Craven Arms, their country park has a wide selection of walks through the Onny meadows.

A varied selection of more energetic activities like horse riding, cycle hire, golf, hot air ballooning, fishing and swimming can all be found locally.

However if your looking for a day out to see some of Britain’s heritage then why not visit the Ironbridge gorge with its eight museums and get a valuable insight in to life at the birthplace of the industrial revolution. The Severn valley railway that travels 16 miles along the banks of the river that lends its name, the famous steam railway is an exciting way to travel through some glorious countryside from Bridgenorth to Kidderminster and Bewdley. Britain’s heritage is revived at Acton Scott Victorian working farm near Church Stretton. It offers the chance to experience daily life on an upland farm at the turn of the last century with animals, agricultural displays and rural crafts that you can join in with. The Carding Mill Valley in Church Stretton lies within the natural folds of the Long Mynd. This stunning valley provides a gateway to the glorious walking countryside to be found in Shropshire.

Lavender cottage is also within easy reach of both Shrewsbury and Hereford. To the north at Shrewsbury, birth place of Charles Darwin you will want to see its shutts and passages, fine castle and Abbey. It is also host to the very popular flower show, regatta and international cartoon festival, which are held annually. To the south the market town of Hereford offers a superb cathedral and is home to the famous 13th century Mappa Mundi. The town is also host to an annual food festival.

Lavender cottage offers an idyllic retreat in south Shropshire all year round with its historic and unspoilt English villages and countryside just a stone throw away.
