Tom Sabin Commemorative Cycle Ride
Arriving at Much Wenlock 09 June 2012. Tom Sabin was a farmer from Allesley, in Coventry who was also a highly successful racing cyclist. During the 1870’s he won races all around Britain on Penny Farthing cycles but perhaps his greatest achievements were winning Gold Medals at the Wenlock Olympian Games in 1876, 1877 & 1878. In honour of this forgotten hero, Coventry Transport Museum, Gail Hudson of Lady Bertie & Sharon Timbrell of the Wenlock Hardware Store in Much Wenlock organised the 3rd Commemorative Tom Sabin 186 mile Memorial ride from Coventry Transport Museum to Much Wenlock, home of the Wenlock Olympian Games inspiration for the modern international Olympics, and then return to Coventry on the Sunday.
