24th Annual Sweet Pea Show

The Eckford Sweet Pea Society, in 2012 welcomes the National Sweet Pea Society with its Late Show to Wem, North Shropshire.

Seventy five competitive classes include Formal Vases, Bowls, Baskets, Special section for Victorian Old Fashioned varieties, Floral Art, Children's section and Decorated Shops and Businesses and an Extensive Display of Wem History in Photographs, cuttings and memorabillia in St Peter & St Paul Parish Church, to include the Eckford family history.

The SWEET PEA SHOW is held in WEM each year in July, to celebrate the close association the town has with sweet peas, which all started over 100 years ago.

The link dates back in fact to 1888 when the world famous hybridist HENRY ECKFORD moved to Wem to continue his work with Sweet Peas and to start what was to become a seeds business famous throughout the world.

A special feature of the show, is the section for Old Fashioned Sweet Peas, most of them raised in Victorian Times by Henry Eckford V.M.H., with seeds available by post or from the society.

Within the show will be an numerous stands offering, Advice, Membership, Raffle, Horticultural accessories, Willow weaving demonstrations, Gifts, Cards, Souvenirs, Perennial plants etc, and of course, seeds for Old fashioned Eckford and Spencer Sweet Peas.

THE VENUE

At The Thomas Adams School, Stanier Hall, High St, SY4 5DE Wem

The Stanier Hall and large marquee are situated on High Street, Wem which is in easy reach of the motorway system and Wem Railway Station.

Strictly “Disabled only” parking at the Venue, Wheelchair access to all areas. All amenities on site including refreshments.

PARKING AVAILABLE IN THE TOWN CENTRE CAR PARK.
(currently £1.80 per day)

Saturday 21st July 2012 : 10am to 5pm
Sunday 22nd July 2012 : 10am to 4pm.


Presentation of Prizes 2pm Saturday

Sale of blooms 4pm Sunday

ADMISSION only £3.00 Children Free
