As well as flicking the switch to illuminate Telford Shopping Centre’s festive display, Darren will be on hand to meet fans and sign autographs.
And this year, there’ll be no need to arrive in thermals or with umbrellas as all the entertainment and festivities will be taking place under cover in Sherwood Square, away from the cold, wind and rain! Plus there’s free parking from 17:00 and the Centre will be open until 20:00.
The action is set to begin at 16:00 with the Beacon Radio Roadshow and breakfast show favourites Ryan and Vicky. There’ll be great music, games and competitions, plus guest appearances from the cast of Oakengates Theatre’s Beauty and the Beast, and carols from the choir of Windmill Primary School, Telford. Elsewhere in the Centre, there’s fun to be had with face painters and children’s entertainers.
Darren, who retired from international cricket at the end of the 2008 season, took over 200 Test wickets during his career and has been named as one of most respected and admired cricketers of our generation. He is also well known as the winner of BBC’s ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ where he partnered with British National champion Lilia Kopylova, and is currently staring as team captain on ‘Hole in the Wall’, currently airing on BBC One on Saturday evenings.
Tracy Hadley, marketing manager at Telford Shopping Centre, comments: “Darren Gough is a sporting legend and a terrific entertainer, so we are absolutely thrilled that he has agreed to come and switch on this year’s Christmas lights. We’re anticipating that he’ll be a very popular attraction, so be sure to arrive early to avoid disappointment.
“And with everything taking place under cover in Sherwood Square, there’s no need to wrap up warm or to stand in the pouring rain. Simply join us for a brilliant evening of entertainment and shopping, and don’t forget that parking is free from 17:00!”
The festive spirit continues at Telford Shopping Centre on Friday 21st November, when Santa and his reindeer will be visiting to open the Christmas Grotto. Six real reindeer, including a pair of calves, will be arriving from the Scottish Cairngorms at approximately 16:00, and will be on show in Red Oak car park prior to the Grotto opening at 18:00.
