Thresholds Centre owners, Anne and Trevor, are thrilled to have been included in the recently published Alstair Sawday’s "Go Slow England’.
Described as ‘next to ancient drovers’ roads, a fantastic array of art and crafts, workshops, writing courses, local history and ‘horse tourism’ including overnight stabling’
Thresholds situated near the summit of Cothercott Hill at the north end of the Long Mynd is often considered to be the centre of Mary Webb Country
“With our unique position in this fascinating countryside loved by walkers we are aware of the need for shelter and / or a picnic spot. This we provide free of charge".
Thresholds is adjacent to The Shropshire Way and Marches Way. Wild Edric’s Way & Hope House Way also passes close by.
Anne has produced several leaflets and booklets to assist people wanting to explore this area. She is also Chairman of an innovative project, Marches Horse Trails, linking venues offering B&B for horses
Anne and Trevor bought Thresholds 20 years ago in a derelict condition.
“Without mains services life can be very difficult but the peaceful lifestyle suits us both. We use alternative technology to supplement the use of a generator for electricity which reduces our carbon footprint and recycle rainwater from the roof for a WC. Despite being situated at nearly 1400’ we make use of the short growing season to provide fresh vegetables and soft fruit from the garden. The garden around the house was planted to encourage wildlife which includes summer migrant birds and damselflies.”
After a hectic career in the West Midlands, Anne opened Thresholds Centre on her retirement where expert tuition is offered on a wide variety of courses and workshops which draw on the landscape for inspiration.
These include local history, storytelling, creative writing, art, crafts. The current displays are orientated towards geology. These include some wonderful examples of fossils on loan from amateur geologists Don and Kingsley. She also organises tour guides on behalf of The Guild of Shropshire Tour Guides.
