Shropshire Youth Theatre (SYT) are delighted that their grant application for £5000 was successful meaning they can professionally stage their production of this classic drama, in their debut at Theatre Severn. The organisation has also received invaluable funding from Whittington Riddall and Shropshire Council.
The Winters Tale is a fairy tale telling the story of a daughter lost and found, it also contains deep psychological insight and delightful comedy. The mad jealousy of King Leontes wreaks havoc in his family and court. Only time, repentance, young love and a touch of magic can restore some happiness. With a specially edited text, SYT promises a fast-paced, moving and entertaining production.
Maggie Love, Artistic Director for SYT said "We’re delighted to receive this grant from the Arts Council which has made staging this wonderful production possible. The rehearsals are well under way and it’s set to be a great performance."
SYT was established in 1993 to provide a professionally staffed youth Theatre Company for Shrewsbury. It now works across Shropshire and is an independent, formally constituted group, run by a small management committee of senior members who are elected on an annual basis.
It provides theatre activities for children and young people aged 5 to 25 years. These range from basic training in theatre skills, through street theatre and devising projects, to large scale performances staged at Shrewsbury's Theatre Severn and workshops performances touring Shropshire schools and Arts Centres.
The Winters Tale will be on stage in the Walker Theatre at Theatre Severn on Friday 19th and Saturday 20th February. Tickets can be booked through the Box Office at Theatre Severn (01743 281281) or at the Old Market Hall in The Square, Shrewsbury or by going online at www.theatresevern.co.uk , where you can choose and book seats.
It will also be staged at SpArC in Bishops Castle for one night only, on Feb 25, box office 01588 630321.
