WHERE?
The village of Snailbeach is 2 miles south of Minsterley off the A488 road from Shrewsbury to Bishops Castle.
WHAT’S ON?
Mine Underground Tour
You may take a guided underground tour into the old workings in Perkins Level. We have plenty of helmets but only a few lights so bring a torch just in case. Bring warm clothes for underground and wear wellingtons as the level can have up to 6 inches of water on the floor.
Mine Surface Tours
Snailbeach Mine has the best preserved set of lead mine buildings in the UK. You can see the Locomotive Shed, Blacksmith's Shop (with the forge working), Visitor Centre and George's Shaft headgear. If you wish, make your own way around with a self-led mine trail leaflet.
HOW MUCH?
There is no charge for visiting the site but underground tours cost £5 adult and £2 child under 16 (proceeds go towards keeping the public toilets open and preservation work on site); book your tickets at the Snailbeach village hall.
