Shropshire Horticultural Society, organisers of Shrewsbury Flower Show, has arranged its first “gardeners evening” for members and visitors early in April – featuring three national figures in the horticultural world.
The event takes place on Thursday April 3 in the Sovereign Suite at Shrewsbury Town Football Club’s ground at Oteley Road at 7pm.
Providing practical demonstrations and answering questions from the audience for what is billed as “a light hearted, entertaining and informative evening” will be Martin Fish, Sarah Hopps and Geoff Stebbings.
Martin Fish, President of the North of England Horticultural Society, writes for Garden News and broadcasts for BBC Radio Nottingham and BBC Midlands Today. He has also presented on Central, Granada and Anglia Television.
Sarah Hopps has her own cottage-garden nursery. She co-presented a series of twelve gardening programmes for Central Television and is a regular on BBC Radio York. She is also a tour guide for groups visiting gardens in Britain and Europe.
Geoff Stebbings trained at the Royal Botanical Gardens, Kew, and was head gardener at Middleton House, Middlesex. He is now editor of Garden Answers magazine and has written several specialist books. He broadcasts for BBC Radio Cambridgeshire.
The evening is free to members, but visitors are welcome at a cost of £10. Tickets are available from the Society office at Quarry Lodge, Shrewsbury, SY1 1RN.
