Frighteningly fun events and activities are taking place at Trust sites across the Midlands, from lantern trails to ghostly walks and broom making to willow weaving.
In Shropshire there’s plenty of Halloween family fun in store for all the family.
Attingham Park, near Shrewsbury, is hosting a Halloween trail from Saturday 22 to Monday 31 October, and there will be Trusty’s Tuesday Club on Tuesday 25 October. There will also be Spooky Walks from Friday 28 October to Sunday 30 October from 6pm to 8pm. Enjoy a self-guided walk around the grounds at night, but beware, who knows what may be prowling around at Halloween.
Attingham is also hosting a Halloween Party on Monday 31 October from 4pm to 7pm. Families can enjoy gruesome games and fearsome fun in the mansion; and the tea-room will be open selling Halloween treats. For further information on these events, visit: www.nationaltrust.org.uk/attinghampark or call: 01743 708162.
A range of Halloween themed workshops and events will be taking place at the Dudmaston Estate, near Bridgnorth, during the school half-term holidays, which will be run from the National Trust’s meeting centre located at Mose.
Activities will be held on Tuesday 25 and Wednesday 26 October, where families will be able to take part in Nature Hunts and Bird Walks. There will also be family workshops giving children the chance to make their own bird boxes or besom broomsticks to compliment trick or treat outfits.
Families can discover more about the art of lantern making at a workshop on Friday 28 October. Participants can carve their own pumpkins and will also be shown how to make willow lanterns, which will be used in the first ever Dudmaston Lantern Walk on Sunday, 30 October. Those taking part in the lantern workshop will get two free children’s tickets for the Sunday event.
For further information on the workshops and how to book, please visit: www.nationaltrust.org.uk/dudmaston or call the Estate Office on 01746 780838.
Dudmaston Estate Property Administrator Nikki Hook said: “Mose is a lovely part of the Estate, particularly at this time of year, surrounded by all the lovely autumn colours, and we want to give everyone the opportunity to learn some new skills whilst enjoying time together as a family.
“We are really excited by the idea of having a lantern walk in the Dingle and hope that as many people as possible join us at the workshops to help us make it a success, and then come back to see the lanterns in all their glory.”
The main Dudmaston Estate will be open from 12noon to 6pm on Sunday 30 October for an afternoon of Autumn Colours and Halloween Fun. Families can explore the Hall’s garden in all its autumn glory while children follow a spooky Halloween trail round the grounds. There’s also the chance to warm up by the log fire in the Garden Room where children can make a special Halloween momento and visit the tea-room to try some traditional Halloween treats. As it gets darker, there will be the chance to explore the Dingle by lantern light during the first Dudmaston Lantern Walk.
Beccy Speight, Director for the Midlands, said: “Halloween is a popular time so we have lots of family fun in store with our Get Spooked! events.
“It is also the perfect time to get outdoors, enjoy the fresh air and see beautiful autumn colour.”
