Newport Town
Newport, Shropshire

We all feel the same after Christmas. You’ve eaten a million mince pies, stuffed yourself full of turkey and can’t find the room for one more slice of Christmas cake. So why not make the Macmillan 2010 January Jog your New Year’s resolution.

Since its launch in 2008, the annual January Jog has attracted higher entries with each passing year. In 2009, over 400 adults and children took part in the biggest race yet. A chilly winter morning did nothing to dampen spirits with everyone having a fantastic time. A cheering crowd, live music and a fantastic free t-shirt for each runner made the event a great family day out.

Entries are now open for the 2010 event and it looks to be even bigger and better than last year. It will be held on 3rd January at Shuker Fields in Newport. With a 5km senior race taking place at 12 noon, followed by a fun run of 2.5km at 1pm, everyone can join in and raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support in Shropshire. Entry fees are £5 for the senior race, and £3 for the fun run and all proceeds go to the charity. Each runner is encouraged to raise sponsorship but there is no minimum amount; so there’s no excuse not to get your trainers on, and join in.

The event is kindly organised by Ian Kevan from Ultrasport, Paul Quinn from The Pheasant pub and Alan Smallman all longstanding and generous supporters of Macmillan.

Clare Nester, Fundraising Manager for Macmillan in Shropshire, said, “We can’t wait for the 2010 January Jog, it is a really fun and inspirational event and a perfect way to kick start your New Year resolutions. Runners of all abilities get involved, so why not enter now and get your friends involved. I’m hoping to see lots of fancy dress out there on the course!”

To get hold of an entry form for the 2010 January Jog you can call the Macmillan office on 01743 452080, or email cnester@macmillan.co.uk  before 18th December. Entries are accepted on the day, but to help with administration and to save time on the day we do encourage you enter before hand.
