A packed programme of events across the weekend will see visitors enjoying this south Shropshire town in many new, environmentally friendly ways.
On Saturday and Sunday, Ludlow plays host to its annual Green Festival with a wide range of activities to suit all ages. From learning to make rugs from rags and coppice crafts to cooking classes for youngsters and lots of live entertainment on offer, the event is aimed at keeping the whole family busy and happy.
On Sunday, a guided walk organised by Ludlow Historical Research Group will start from the cannon memorial, just outside gates to Ludlow Castle and will look at the history and architecture of this medieval town and the fascinating lives of its weird and wonderful characters.
Then on Monday, visitors can enjoy more walks around the town alongside the River Teme which curves neatly around the town. The fast flowing river offers two short walks around the town described by poet John Betjeman as being ‘the loveliest town in England’ offering a range wonderful places to eat and drink to suit all appetites and pockets. A good place to start a stroll is the newly restored Mill on the Green, site of the popular Green Café, where visitors have direct access to the riverside while enjoying great, honest well cooked food. Here, visitors can enjoy the traditional Fun Day and Grand Duck Race which takes place on the Green throughout Monday afternoon.
There are four restaurants and pubs situated alongside the river in which walkers can get refreshments including the Michelin-starred Mr Underhill’s; The Charlton Arms; The Unicorn and The Hotel. The Unicorn is on the north side of town on the River Corve, a tributary to the River Teme, lying close to where the rivers meet.
Steeped in history and packed with beautiful buildings on every street, Ludlow offers a truly memorable experience for this August Bank Holiday.
