The National Trust property near Shrewsbury throws open its doors for a new season on Saturday. You will also have a fabulous opportunity to see the relaying of the stunning dining room table.

Visitors will get to see the conservation team delicately replacing the exquisite dinner service and candelabras, whilst explaining how the table is being laid and why it was necessary to remove the display during the closed period.

The dining room is part of the ongoing Attingham Re-discovered project and is now presented as if it were evening, awaiting the guests for a dinner party in the late 1820s-1830s.

The scene is set as if the 3rd Lord Berwick has just returned from his ambassadorial post in Italy, bringing his 1814 collections of French porcelain, gilt and ormolu table centre-pieces and his silverware

Catherine Turnbull, Visitor Services Manager, said: “We are really looking forward to the new season where we begin by giving this unique opportunity for our visitors to witness this stunning dining room display being re-laid. Our conservation team will be on hand to give an insight into the methods they use and how they undertook the massive task of clearing the table earlier in the year.”

The house is open for taster tours between 11am and 1pm and then free-flow from 1pm to 5pm on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 March, last admission 4pm.

House opening continues from Saturday 14 March where visitors can enjoy Attingham Re-discovered Week.

Visitors can spend the day at Attingham by enjoying the house and tea-room as well as the woodland walks along the River Tern and through the Deer Park, taking in stunning views of the Wrekin and Shropshire Hills.

Admission to the house and grounds is free to National Trust members. Admission for non-members is £8.40 for adults, £4.70 for children and £19.50 for a family ticket (includes gift aid).
