‘House of Beasts’ organised by Shropshire-based Meadow Arts, highlights the importance of Attingham’s animal population past and present, and its part in the history of the estate.
The contemporary art works offers an opportunity to revisit the diversity and wealth of Attingham’s collections as well as the significance of its landscape.
New commissions have been directly inspired by Attingham and a wealth of existing works by high profile and regional artists will also be on display.
Mandy Fowler, Manager of Meadow Arts, said: “The exhibition explores evolving human relationships with animals, such as emotional ties to pets, antagonism to pests and admiration and curiosity for birds and butterflies.”
The exhibition supports a three year partnership between the National Trust and Arts Council England to promote contemporary art at National Trust properties.
Tom Freshwater, the Contemporary Arts Programme Manager for the National Trust says: “This show is going to be thought provoking and surprising. We hope visitors will take away lasting memories of Attingham and the unexpected beasts they find when they visit.”
‘House of Beasts’ appears in the stables, mansion and parkland from July 2011 to July 2012.
