Stela may play traditional instruments such as fiddles, a viola d'amore, and pedal accordion, but they tilt their performances in a modern direction, as they rediscover and explore the cultural heritage of their rural Polish region, Suwalki.
The four multi-instrumentalists interweave beautiful vocal harmonies with arrangements ranging from jazz-inflected rhythms to the traditional drone harmonies of the Slavic tradition. An evening with Stela will take you on a musical journey from old to new which keeps the spirit of Poland at its heart. Enhanced by a slideshow of beautiful images from their home in Poland’s Lake district the event promises a truly visually and musical experience.
Sian Kerry Director of Arts Alive says “Stela have been bought over to the UK by rural touring schemes across the country working together as part of the International Village of Culture -Baltic Roots tour. This is the only performance date in the west midlands, so world music fans are urged not to miss out”
The concert takes place at Wem Town Hall on Thursday 4th February at 8pm. Tickets priced at just £8 for adults and £6 for students are selling quickly so pre book your ticket as soon as possible on 01939 237075.
